BTech Partners with Institut Teknologi Bandung to Advance Mining Technology

03 June 2025

PT Bukit Teknologi Digital (BTech), the research and development (R&D) arm and a subsidiary of PT BUMA Internasional Grup Tbk (BUMA International Group), proudly announced a collaboration with the Faculty of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (FTMD) at Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), one of Indonesia’s most prestigious academic institutions, on 16 May 2025.

The partnership focuses on joint initiatives to analyze critical components of mining equipment and is expected to deliver the following outcomes:

  • Algorithms for component health indicators and recommended interventions
  • Lifespan prediction models based on health index analysis
  • Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) algorithms
  • Optimized Remaining Useful Life (RUL) models

The agreement was signed by Chandima Wijekoon, CEO of BTech, and Prof. Dr. Ir. Hermawan Judawisastra, Acting Dean of FTMD ITB. The event was also attended by researchers and faculty members from FTMD ITB and followed by a technical discussion with Dr.Ing. Tri Yuswidjajanto Zaenuri, Coordinator of the Expert Team for Project Implementation.

The agreement serves as a testament to BTech’s growing expertise in developing health indicators and remaining useful life (RUL) models for key components of heavy equipment, as well as reflecting its contribution to higher education through industry-relevant collaborative research. In November 2024, BTech signed an MoU with The University of Queensland, Australia, to provide research on predictive maintenance models using AI and machine learning. The two agreements with leading universities in both countries highlight the company’s commitment to advancing applied research that bridges academic insight with real-world industry needs.

This collaboration between BTech as an industry player and ITB as an academic institution is expected to enhance field operations through strong scientific methodologies and data analysis, driving impactful innovation. This two-way synergy not only enriches the knowledge and capabilities of both parties but also contributes to greater efficiency, safety, and sustainability in mining operations through the development of reliable and measurable indicators.
